This is us, just behing the seaplane
Mgar marina, Gozo is very pleasant and picturesque, at the inner end of the pontoon is a big sign "Aircraft Only", and to our surprise a small sea-plane arrived. Even the ferries from Malta come in gently without creating any swell.
Next day we went shopping at the one and only supermarket, it stocks almost everything but has a very limited selection of fresh produce so the following day we took the bus to Victoria. Bought fresh produce from shops around the local market and chose the wrong restaurant for lunch, below average food at above average price, luck of the draw! Tan found a plaque at what used to be the hospital noting that it was opened by the Duchess of Edinburgh.
The market in Victoria
Gozo is a wonderful mixture of time warp and new with BMW 4x4 alongside old Leyland busses, old cars like the Ford Popular, and products in the market that I haven’t seen since I was a child.
The people are friendly and despite the increasing tourist invasion it seems to keep it’s identity. It would be a great place to winter except that the harbour provides very little shelter from the winter storms.
Gozo has a nice ‘feel’ to it but from a sailing perspective is very limited unless you have a tiny boat because the coastline has no good anchorages except what is called the Blue Lagoon (on near-by Camino Island) because of the white sand and blue sea. Unfortunately you can’t see either because it gets so packed with tour boats and motor boats in the day it’s like wall-to-wall carpeting.
